Steven Pierce, Owner/Founder

steve piercePrior to founding 1st American Insurance Agency, Steven Pierce worked for American Family Insurance for 26 plus years. Steven’s extensive background includes starting his own agency in 1986, serving as a Life Insurance Specialist and prior to founding 1st American Insurance Agency Steve held a management role in which he worked as a business partner and mentor to twenty five plus agents. All facets of his career have contributed to his extensive knowledge in understanding and serving customer needs.

Outside of 1st American Steve serves on the PIIAC Board of Directors. Steven’s in-depth knowledge of products, technology, and trends make him an insurance industry expert. Steven has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (2000) and Chartered Financial Consultant (2000) designations from the American College as well as Accredited Advisor Insurance (2005) and Associate Personal Insurance (2006) designations from the Insurance Institute of America.  March of 2016 saw Steve receiving his Certified Insurance Counselor designation through the National Alliance.

Steve and his wife Candy reside in Broomfield where they are members of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.  They enjoy golfing and traveling together as well as time at their condo in Keystone.  Steve has two sons Connor and Max who are attending University of Colorado Denver.

Doug MontgomeryDoug Montgomery joined 1st American Insurance Agency in May, 2014 after a successful 13-year career as an American Family Insurance Agent in Longmont, Colo. Montgomery was recognized as a Distinguished Insurance Agent by JD Power for 9 consecutive years. Montgomery is a native of Boulder, Colo, and has spent his entire life in and around Boulder County. Montgomery earned a BS in Criminal Justice/Political Science from Metropolitan State University. While at Metro State, he starred on the Roadrunners baseball team. Montgomery was inducted into the Metro State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.

Prior to entering the insurance industry, Montgomery served as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information/Special Projects at Regis University (1993-98), Assistant Sports Information Director at Metro State (1989-93) and Media Relations Director for the Denver Zephyrs Baseball Club (1987-88). Montgomery currently resides in Longmont with his wife, Cindy, and their two children (Abbie, 18, and Blake, 16). The couple enjoy traveling, high school and college sports and are active members at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot.

Hunt Shepherd joined 1st American Insurance Agency in December, 2014 after owning and managing Hamilton-Shepherd Insurance Agency for 25 years.  Prior to entering agency, Shepherd served as an underwriter at General Accident Insurance Company for four years.  Shepherd’s knowledge of insurance principles is vast.  Shepherd is a native of Boulder, Colo. and has spent his entire life living in the area, save for the four years he was in Grand Junction earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business/Finance from Colorado Mesa University. 

Shepherd is passionate about helping others and takes pleasure in providing solid counsel focused on other’s needs. That passion has served him well professionally, and has led to a lifetime of mentoring youth while coaching a variety of sports.  He has served as a coach for area youth softball, baseball and hockey clubs over the past 15 years.  A high school hockey standout in his own right, Shepherd still plays the sport and enjoys watching the Colorado Avalanche.  He also is a fan of the Denver Broncos and University of Colorado football.  Despite having numerous professional opportunities presented to him throughout his life, Shepherd has never been able to leave the Rocky Mountains behind. He and his wife, Dina, have made their home in Lafayette for the last 20 years and have three children (Merritt, Rylee and Kaden).

Kelli WhiteleyAfter working 14 years split between American Family Insurance and State Farm Insurance, Kelli Whiteley joined 1st American Insurance Agency Longmont, CO in January 2016. Her years of experience have allowed her to serve her insureds through extensive knowledge of property/casualty insurance, a thorough understanding of multiple carriers in addition to customer service with a friendly rapport. Kelli grew up in Colorado graduating from Silver State Baptist High School in 1979 and earning an Associate’s Degree in Secretarial Studies from Bob Jones University in 1982.

Kelli, along with her husband Wade, currently lives in Longmont where she raised her four children. Outside of 1st American Insurance Agency she enjoys time with her family, interior decorating, restoring furniture, singing in her church choir and having coffee with friends. Kelli is excited to be working as a Trusted Choice Independent Agent as now she has so much more to offer clients working with her!

 

 


Mike Moat, Customer Service Representative

Mike Moat joined 1st American Insurance Agency in February, 2016 after 8 years in the financial industry as a Financial Analyst and Account Manager/Business Processing Specialist. Mike was recognized as a 4-time C3 Star Award winner in his previous position as an Account Manager by demonstrating his commitment, capability and client focused attributes. Mike is originally from Boulder, Colorado and has spent most of his life in and around the Boulder county area. Mike attended San Diego State University where he studied Criminal Justice, as well as Ashford University where he earned his BA in Business Management.

Mike is a former 3-time Niwot High School Baseball State Champion, High School All-American, Freshman All-American and NBC World Series Champion. Mike had the honor and privilege to play for MLB Hall Famer Tony Gwynn during his 3-year career at San Diego State. Prior to entering the finance and insurance industry, Moat played for the Chicago White Sox for four years as a Pitcher until injury complications cut his playing days short. Moat currently resides in Mead, Colorado, with his wife, Lori, and their two children (Maddox, 5 and Cadence, 2). The two enjoy spending time with family, camping, boating, and attending/participating in sporting events.
